Building a More Resilient Beef Value Chain: GSF Supports Landmark Grasslands Initiative and Broader Sustainability Efforts


GSF Supports Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative

As a long-standing McDonald’s beef supplier, Golden State Foods (GSF) proudly supports the newly launched Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative alongside its customer. This landmark investment in regenerative agriculture reflects GSF and McDonald’s shared commitment to responsible beef sourcing, natural resource stewardship, and the sustained resilience of existing food systems. In partnership with National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, the initiative will invest more than $200 million to help promote and accelerate regenerative grazing practices, habitat restoration, and wildlife conservation on cattle ranches, spanning 4 million acres.

“By supporting this initiative, we're demonstrating that feeding a growing population and protecting our natural resources can go hand in hand," said PJ Newcomb, GSF's Sustainability Director. "Through this partnership, we're helping to build a more resilient beef value chain that delivers both environmental and economic benefits.”

GSF also actively leads and collaborates with partners on several other initiatives to advance sustainability and resilience across the U.S. beef value chain. Efforts include:


·         Supporting practices such as regenerative feed corn production, enhanced grazing management, increasing cover crops and nitrogen management, grassland restoration, animal welfare, and methane-reducing innovations

·         Providing technical assistance and financial incentives to farmers and ranchers

·         Collaborating with academic and industry partners on research and education

Collectively, by 2030, these initiatives, including the Grassland Resilience and Conservation Initiative, are projected to impact more than 5 million acres of grasslands and more than one million metric tons of CO2e.
