GSF Associates Take Action: Earth Week's "Do One Thing" Challenge

During Earth Week, GSF’s Sustainability team hosted various activities, from webinars to trivia contests, to engage associates at all locations. Through the “Do One Thing” challenge, associates took the pledge to adopt a personal carbon-reducing goal to put into practice in their daily lives.

Building on the momentum of Earth Week and the enthusiasm sparked by the “Do One Thing” challenge, local teams also took meaningful action in their communities to support sustainability efforts. For example, the GSF team in Conyers,

Georgia collectively embraced a year-long commitment to sustainability by joining the City of Conyers' Adopt-a-Mile Program. They will maintain and beautify a designated stretch of road once each quarter. This ongoing effort serves as a lasting symbol of their dedication to environmental stewardship and the spirit of Earth Day.

“Earth Week reminds us that meaningful change begins with a single step, whether it’s choosing to reduce our carbon footprint or finding innovative ways to protect our planet,” said PJ Newcomb, GSF’s Sustainability Director. “Let’s keep this momentum going by turning everyday actions into lasting impact, starting with the personal pledges made through our ‘Do One Thing’ challenge.”

GSF continues to advance its sustainability efforts with these companywide environmental goals:

  • Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 22% by 2030

  • Reduce our water usage intensity by 30% by 2030

  • Achieve zero-waste to landfill at all global facilities by 2030

Some key sustainability initiatives include innovating to create award-winning sustainable foodservice packaging, recycling sludge and waste tank loadouts to convert into clean energy, and achieving ISO 14001 Certification at half of U.S. facilities.

Additionally, this spring, QCD will complete the build-out of an innovative, first-of-its-kind clean energy microgrid in the greater Los Angeles area to power its Southern California fleet of electric trucks. This milestone brings QCD’s clean transportation initiative into full deployment with more than 40 Volvo VNR electric trucks making last-mile deliveries from the Fontana and La Puente distribution centers.
