Everyday Choices Power Earth Week Momentum at GSF

One small choice can spark widespread impact. During Earth Week, GSF associates showed how daily actions move sustainability forward across every location.

From April 20–24, associates engaged in learning that linked the company’s environmental priorities to everyday responsibilities. The week opened with the “Do One Thing” pledge, challenging participants to commit to one personal action that lowers carbon impact. Small steps, from cutting energy use to limiting waste, gained greater meaning through shared participation.

Short daily videos kept environmental responsibility in focus. Each segment showed how resource stewardship connects to every part of GSF’s business. Sessions on hidden water loss, material recovery, and power consumption turned complex topics into clear, practical takeaways.

Facilities added momentum through local projects such as beach cleanups and roadway beautification, as well as plant raffles and hands-on planting stations that let associates exercise their green thumb. Seed kit prize giveaways underwritten in part by GSF vendors Fastenal and Motion Industries encouraged associates to keep environmental sustainability top of mind and extend the impact beyond the week.

“Earth Week builds awareness and turns responsibility into routine,” said PJ Newcomb, GSF’s Sustainability Director. “Across the company, teams advanced emissions reduction efforts, launched on‑site renewable energy projects, and strengthened climate action partnerships. Together, these actions lower our environmental footprint and reinforce long‑term progress.”

Ongoing programs continue to deliver impact. For example, QCD fleets in Fontana, Los Angeles, and Portland operate on renewable diesel or electric vehicles. In China, GSF collaborated with growers to launch drip irrigation, reducing water use by about 35%, while GSF Australia sends unusable product to nearby farms for animal feed, cutting landfill volume.

These initiatives move the company closer to long‑term targets for emissions reduction, water conservation, and waste prevention.
