“Meat” the Newest Member of the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef: Dr. Wayne Morgan

On May 3, the Board of Directors of the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef gained a new member: GSF’s own Dr. Wayne Morgan, Corporate Vice President,

and President, Protein Products. The U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, which was created in 2015, is focused on advancing the sustainable beef industry by educating all facets of the supply chain and communicating the sector’s continuous improvement. GSF is a charter member of the Roundtable, which includes 100 people involved in all aspects of the beef supply chain from the feed yard to the food service sector. Morgan was selected to be one of the two representatives of the Roundtable’s Packer and Processor sector and will serve a two-year term. He has been actively involved in the Roundtable since its inception, so his new role is a well-deserved honor. While on the Board of Directors, Morgan will focus on the organization’s sustainability framework, which is currently open for public comment. “Within the Packer and Processor sector, I’ll be reviewing the comments we receive,” said Morgan. “Once we review them, we’ll move them forward and bring this document to fruition as a collaborative framework for continuous improvement and sustainability.” Though Morgan’s tenure is just beginning, he is confident about the progress that has already been made—and the great work yet to come. “In most cases, a lot of the sustainability actions are already being taken and it’s a matter of identifying what we can do better,” said Morgan. “Within the packer and processor community, we put a lot of effort into waste reduction, energy reduction, and water usage. We are always looking to be more efficient.”
