GSF Protein Products Achieves NAMI Worker Safety Award for Second Consecutive Year

February 9, 2021

This week, the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) honors GSF’s Opelika, Alabama Protein Products manufacturing facility with a NAMI 2020 Worker Safety Recognition Award during the Virtual Worker Safety Conference for the Meat and Poultry Industry. As just one of 26 plants out of 136 to earn the 2020 award, Opelika demonstrated its commitment to creating a safer workplace for all meat and poultry industry workers, according to NAMI.

“I’m proud of our Opelika team’s commitment to creating a safe workplace and industry leadership over the past two years, evidenced by these back-to-back annual recognitions,” said Nathan Murphy, Group Vice President of Operations, Protein. “With every associate diligently focused on safety, together we’re maintaining the highest standards for GSF and our customers.”

Over the past two years, Opelika’s safety culture and steadfast record has led to its successful performance and well-deserved recognition. NAMI’s award evaluation is based on beating the national industry standard for occupational injuries/illnesses, its safety and health program questionnaire, and its DART (Days Away, Restricted or Transferred) rate, an OSHA calculation that determines how safe businesses have been in a calendar year per certain types of workers’ compensation injuries.
