GSF IT Pro Sue Young Reflects on 35 Years of Service

Each quarter, GSF features an individual celebrating an anniversary within the GSF family of companies, sharing their journey, insights and what makes their time with the company so special.

“Never a dull moment,” is how Sue Young describes the past 35 years working for Golden State Foods. She joined the GSF team in the corporate IT department and currently serves as a Senior Project Manager at the company’s Irvine, California global headquarters.

“I’ve seen so many changes and growth in the company since I joined GSF,” Sue reminisces about her three decades since joining GSF. “Technology has changed tremendously. We didn’t have email, chat applications, or cell phones in the early days. We used pagers when we were on call and shared a ‘portable’ PC, that wasn’t so portable, on the off-hours and weekends.”

Today, Sue implements solutions for internal and external customers of GSF’s Liquid Products food manufacturing facilities, which make sauces, syrups, and dressings for leading quick service restaurant brands. In explaining her role, Sue says that she troubleshoots, researches issues, gathers requirements, documents, designs, tests, trains, and implements new requests and processes. Crediting her success to a wide range of skills, Sue focuses on clear communication, adapts to constant change, and focuses on the people first.

“It’s always about the people. Supporting our customers, the best we can, so they can do their job the best that they can,” the IT professional and mother of two shares. “Listening, responding, understanding by putting yourself in your customer’s shoes. Treating others like you want to be treated is key.”

Describing GSF as “a great company to work for,” Sue enjoys helping customers and learning each day. She’s also grateful for the opportunity to involve her family in the company’s nonprofit, the GSF Foundation, and its volunteer activities over the years. She shares that the GSF Foundation is “just amazing and helps so many people in so many ways.”

GSF congratulates Sue on this tremendous milestone with gratitude for her meaningful contributions to the company over the past 35 years!
