When Shamika France joined Golden State Foods in September 2017, she was looking for a place to learn, grow, and build a future. Starting as a patty packer at the Opelika, Alabama protein facility, Shamika quickly proved her dedication and drive.
Empowering Growth Through Culture
Guided by Mark Sheppard, Assistant Operations Manager and a GSF associate for 31 years, Shamika advanced to the role of Team Lead. To support her career path, GSF provided leadership training that equipped her with the skills to lead her team effectively and strengthened her confidence. In addition, she earned an associate’s degree in business through GSF’s tuition reimbursement program.
“This process hasn’t been easy, but the journey has shaped me into a better leader,” she said.
Beyond the benefits and advancement opportunities, GSF's supportive people-first culture influenced Shamika's decisions about where to build her career.
“We’re all one big family, and without everyone’s support, I wouldn’t be here today,” Shamika shared.
Pursuing Continued Growth Pathing
Now serving as Protein Operations Supervisor, Shamika enjoys building meaningful relationships and focuses on learning new skills to benefit the company.
Her advice for others looking to grow at GSF? “Convey your interest, take the initiative, be coachable, work hard, and be your true self.”
From packing patties to supervising operations, Shamika’s story exemplifies successful career pathing when tenacity, opportunity, and a supportive culture of growth all work together.
