GSF Career Spotlight: Desiree Petersen


The right culture changes everything. For Desiree Petersen, KanPak became the place where hard work, mentorship, and confidence opened doors she never expected.


Based in Penn Yan, New York, Desiree serves as Assistant Quality Assurance Manager, helping uphold standards across GSF’s dairy and beverage operations. She first joined KanPak in 2016 while searching for a temporary position. Once she experienced the company culture, she shifted her mindset toward long-term possibilities.


“KanPak’s positive culture is motivating and energizing,” shares Desiree. “It creates an environment where associates are encouraged to grow and succeed. Leadership consistently brings out the best in their teams and helps individuals recognize their full potential, which has greatly influenced my career journey.”

A decade ago, Desiree began on the production floor as a packer. Daily interactions with teammates and processes reinforced her interest in quality and food safety. She took on greater responsibility in quality control and compliance-focused work, sharpening her analytical skills and deepening her understanding of regulatory standards.


When the pandemic required her full attention at home, Desiree stepped away to homeschool her children. In 2022, she returned with renewed focus and determination.


Her second KanPak chapter showcased impressive momentum. Desiree returned as a Quality Control In‑Line associate and earned successive promotions to Compliance Auditor, Lead Compliance Auditor, Quality Supervisor, and her current leadership role. Along the way, she completed an associate’s degree with Magna Cum Laude honors and will finish her bachelor’s degree this summer. She also achieved Lean Six Sigma certifications through Black Belt, along with Food Defense Coordinator, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, and American Institute of Baking (AIB) International credentials.


“The collaboration, trust, and mutual respect among team members make even the toughest days rewarding,” says Desiree. “Feeling supported by such a dedicated, knowledgeable, and purpose‑driven team is what makes KanPak a special place to work.”

KanPak’s nurturing environment fueled Desiree’s success and empowered her to push past self-doubt and embrace new challenges. Looking ahead, she welcomes future opportunities with the company.
